Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center

The Micheal E. DeBakey VA Medical Center is also a teaching facility for the Baylor College of Medicine and is housed in a building that contains over 2 million square feet of usable space. L-DS has been fortunate to work on three different assignments:

• Conversion of a 15,000 SF nursing unit on the 6th floor into an ambulatory surgery facility capable of performing up to 4,000 procedures a year
• Renovation of space in the basement to be utilized as a Bio-Med facility
• Analysis of the building skin for integrity and performance

A large portion of the building functioned under negative pressure, and the building skin consisted of a number of different materials.  L-DS worked with its consultants to produce construction documentation that allowed for a multi-phase building skin remedial construction program.
