The plaza design required specific emphasis on an open space system, circulation, parking facilities, landscape/hardscape, roadway configuration, pedestrian walkways, campus lighting & security, campus interior & exterior signage, site amenities, site drainage and utility systems. La Branch Street was redeveloped in 2014. The San Jacinto Memorial Green and Austin Street was redeveloped in 2016. The HUB building that contains student services as well as the science department, constituted Phase I, and was completed and occupied in the summer of 2010.
One of the major goals within the redevelopment of the campus was to unify the historic and new facility buildings. The Buffalo Soldiers Museum, located on the Central Campus, is now housed within the historic Armory Building. The development of the southern half of Southeast Midtown is planned to be a collaborative effort of HCC and the Midtown Management District.
