L-DS provided site planning, schematic design, interior programming and design services for the conversion of an existing parking facility into a bookstore and campus security facility for HCC’s Central Campus. The Boney Building (the previous structure), was located on a full city block overlooking San Jacinto Memorial Green. The HCC Central Campus Bookstore and security facilities, which are now housed in the building, was also programmed to include a coffee shop, retail and parking spaces, all contributing to the creation of street life on the already active campus in Midtown Houston.
The new bookstore facility is located due north of the San Jacinto Memorial Green at the intersection of Holman St. and San Jacinto St., across the San Jacinto Building.
The west wing was demolished in the fall of 2009 to accommodate the expansion of the San Jacinto Memorial Green that is now the focal point of the campus. The bookstore was programmed to house educational, retail, financial functions and attended parking.
