L-DS prepared the design for the hike/bike trail along the southern edge of Buffalo Bayou as part of the city-wide trail system. The system is planned along the five bayous that weave through the greater Houston area providing a well dispersed, yet connected open space system.
The design area extends from the Theater District’s Sesquicentennial Park to Allen’s Landing on the east side. Allen’s Landing is a very special area along the Buffalo Bayou where the Allen Brothers landed in 1836 and subsequently became the developers of Houston. This area of the Bayou has a significant history, as it was part of the original core of the city. Under the Franklin Street Bridge, stands exposed a 19th Century masonry wall which forms the backdrop for a proposed wharf area that will serve as an Interpretive Center.
