As the largest public hospital in Houston, Ben Taub General Hospital is the leading provider of emergency and trauma services in the region. It is also the largest hospital in the Harris County Hospital District System and a major component of the Baylor College of Medicine practice program.
L-DS led a major planning, design and construction administration effort in a joint venture with another AE firm, to build the $125 million replacement hospital. The replacement facility is a full service tertiary care 550-bed facility. The project was designed on a site with substantial constraints and within a demanding schedule and budget. The product was a facility which was both functionally efficient and aesthetically elegant. The replacement hospital occupies a prominent site in the Texas Medical Center adjacent to Herman Park. The team received a bonus of $1.6 million for under budget and on time project completion.
