Lyndon B. Johnson (LBJ) Hospital is part of the public hospital system in Houston, Texas and is the leading provider of obstetrical services in the region. It is also a teaching hospital in the Harris County Hospital District System and a major component of the University of Texas-Houston clinical practice program.
L-DS had previously prepared a master plan for the Harris County Hospital District and the network of facilities it operates. The client subsequently selected the firm as one of the joint venture design teams to provide site selection, full architectural and engineering services for the replacement project. The project was designed on a new site with substantial environmental constraints, a demanding schedule and a very efficient budget. The product was a facility which is both functionally efficient and aesthetically elegant.
The project was completed within budget and ahead of schedule. The team received an on time bonus of nearly $1 million.
